Augustus Juilliard – leaves $20,000,000 to music school which is renamed in his honour.

The Juilliard School

Wealthy textile merchant Augustus Juilliard died in 1919. In his will he made a bequest of $20,000,000 for the advancement of music, the largest single bequest of its kind up until that time. Founded in 1905, the School was named after Julliard.
